Good News!!!

We just received a call from Theresa (the Hilliard's friend and neighbor) that Gary has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing on his own. Even better, he has regained consciousness and recognized both Pam and Theresa! He was also able to move his extremities when the doctors were talking to him.

While his condition is still very serious, he appears to be on his way back.

God bless them. Wow. Thank you SO MUCH for keeping us posted on his condition. I can't even imagine running AC this year without him... so incredibly unfortunate and heartbreaking...

Gary is one of the toughest persons I know. It will take more than a motorcycle accident to keep him down. He'll pass me in next years PCT50 just like he did last year; absolutely no doubt.

Best news to date.
Will come back to look for more updates and positive movement. A long process lies ahead, but these are positive first steps.

All our best to Gary and Pam.

That is wonderful, thanks for keeping us all updated! Gary is a friend, peer, heroe, and true inspiration! He is like a brother as much as like a father. When times are rough, he always has such a great tough attitude. I feel so lucky to have he and Pam in my life. You both are in my thoughts and prayers! - Patrick

Hi Gary,

It was a priviledge meeting you in Stovepipe Wells a couple weeks before the race. Here's a picture of Gary meeting Monica Otero, the first South American woman (Brazilian) to run Badwater. Gary and Monica were comparing cancer surgery scars when I took this picture of them:

Keep fighting Gary....you have a wonderful wife and lots of friends who care about you and praying for you!

Gary/Pam -- I know you will pull through this just fine. Should be a piece of cake compared to doing Badwater. See you out on the trails very soon.

Dear Pam & Gary,
Robert & I were sooo happy to hear that Gary was awake. Gary, If you can do Badwater on a weekend then be at running club that Wednesday and actually run, and... be RD and organizing a major race all at the same time, you must have an iron will & constitution. (and /or just be plain crazy) Pam & Gary, draw on those great qualities you both possess to pull through this.
You both have touched so many people through your love and dedication to the sport of running.
Stay strong
Much love and prayers
